This little fellow and his family frequently cause damage to our cedar home as they hammer for bug food.  Interesting to note he needs to cushion his head against the shock of all that hammering.  Did you know most woodpeckers have very long tongues, up to 4 times the length of their bill.  Although he looks very big in the picture I am sure this is a Downy Woodpecker rather than his cousin the Hairy Woodpecker.
